Restylane

Restylane® is a cosmetic rejuvenation product known as a dermal filler. Fillers are often used in conjunction with Botox for a more balanced overall aesthetic effect. Botox decreases lines by stopping the movement that causes them, whereas fillers plump the dermis, the support platform of the skin, to flatten the skin surface, thereby diminishing lines and folds. Fillers are also commonly used for lip enhancement, and Restylane has recently formulated a product with that specific intent, appropriately called Restylane Lipp.

Restylane products, produced by Qmed, have distinct advantages over other commercially available fillers. The substance injected, hyaluronic acid, is already in our skin, so it is not recognized by the immune system as a foreign substance, thereby making adverse reactions extremely uncommon. Secondly, the injections, though slightly more time consuming than Botox, usually need only be performed every six to nine months. Lastly, Restylane products, unlike thicker fillers such as silicon, can be injected with tiny needles, thereby decreasing discomfort.
